Legacy School of Sports Science is arguably the best team in the State of Texas regardless of classification and affiliation. They went down to San Antonio to face Wagner High School who year in and year out is a perennial power in the state, they have moved up from UIL 5A to UIL 6A and are ranked 4th in the state according to TABC preseason polls. Wagner was without three prospects who couldn’t play because of transfer rules within the district. One of the two prospects is a Oakland University signee and a Top 100 junior prospect nationally. This game was set to feature a total of 10 NCAA D1 prospects.
Both teams started out really hot as they traded a couple of buckets. Three solid possessions is all it took for Legacy to take control of the first quarter of the game and never looked back. The Thunderbirds had a lot of fight in them and weren’t about to back down to the Titans. At one point of the game the Titans were up by 38 points midway through the third quarter, but the Thunderbirds fought to stay in the game and had some big runs towards the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter Legacy continued to play at the same pace and with the same intensity that they started the game with.
Wagner is still a heavy favorite to come out of Region IV-6A for UIL State and they will still be a tough team to beat. Coach Rodney Clark “It’s not everyday that you get to play against a team full of next level players. We are going to be okay, and it was a good game for my young guys who showed me a lot.”
